Thank You for supporting our Motorcity Mitsu Team in the Whitby WIN Marathon
We as a team each completed our various distances during the Whitby Marathon achieving a Team Donation of over $5,800. Thank you to all who supported our efforts financially to achieve this goal. With the Motorcity Mitsu Team – and an Eclipse as the pace car - we had the support needed to take on this venture. Just so you know Mitsubishi Motors Canada has also completed this years support and based on sales for April to June will contribute over $450,000 to this cause.
Our Motorcity Mitsu team was made up of four individuals who were:
Virve Kukk – The grand dame who completed the ½ marathon. She was also there to see Ray across the finish.
Jeremy Booker – Jeremy is in the Wheel chair and completed the ½ marathon in just over 2 hours. His real sport is Sledge Hockey – on the Canadian National Team – so this was a different challenge to which he quickly adapted.
Jeff Callery (White Shirt) – As the President of the Whitby Rotary Club this was Jeff’s first ½ marathon and although a challenge he completed the distance and as always had a smile.
Ray Richardson (Mitsu cap) – As the team leader this was my 5th Marathon. I had to complete although I must say it was not easy because of the Heat that day, and I would say not nearly as fine a sight at the end. But with Virve motivating me in I did get there and meet our goal.
Right To Play is an amazing international humanitarian organization that uses sport and play programs to improve health, develop life skills, and foster peace for children and communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world. Working in both the humanitarian and development context, Right To Play trains local community leaders as Coaches to deliver its programs in countries affected by war, poverty, and disease in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and South America.
With my involvement in Rotary projects in developing countries I know how sports and teams help young people make links and build confidence in environments that are very challenging. Many of us know that sports are a positive factor but in these countries they are of even greater importance and RIGHT to PLAY does make a difference.
Thank you to all who supported our TEAM effort.
