Gillian Apps was born on November 2, 1983 . Gillian majored in psychology at Dartmouth College. She is the daughter of Syl and Anne Apps, and has one sister and one brother. Gillian’s grandfather, Syl Apps, won three Stanley Cups in the 1940s as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, is enshrined in the NHL Hall of Fame, and competed in the pole vault, representing Canada at the 1936 Olympics and Gillian’s father, Syl Apps Jr., played for three NHL teams from 1970 to ’80 brother, Syl Apps III, played for Princeton.
Gillian has earned everything she has accomplished throughout her stellar hockey career. Her speed, size and aggressive style of play makes her one of the most feared power forwards in the women’s game today. She is constantly referred to by Thunder fans already as The Big Train and with good reason. She plays the game to win and her play making ability needs not take a back seat behind anyone in the game. A great passer, smooth skater and deadly shooter that will drive the opposition to limits that they may never have experienced before, as she sees the ice and developing play far better than most in the game. Gillian is a game breaker that will certainly fulfill the tremendous expectations that commonly are placed upon her. Thunder Fans welcome her with open arms. Gillian is preparing for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics in February.
